About Us
Aultman's Family Medicine Clerkship is designed to provide a thorough family medicine experience through a diverse and well-coordinated educational program.
A Wide Variety of Family Medicine Opportunities
Regardless of your specific interests, Aultman's Family Medicine Clerkship offers a wide range of experiences. Medical student training facilities include the Family Medicine Center of Aultman Hospital, the Waynesburg Family Medicine Center, Bethany Nursing Home, and Aultman Woodlawn.
Geriatric Medicine
The geriatric experience is provided at Bethany Nursing Home, a 39-bed, extended-care facility. Our residents and faculty are the staff physicians for this facility, which provides valuable clinical experience in managing chronic disease in the elderly.
Palliative Care/Hospice
Medical studnets will be scheduled to participate in our inpatient Palliative Care/Hospice unit.
Family Medicine Center at Aultman
We believe the strength of your education in family medicine lies in your experiences in the ambulatory site. The Family Medicine Center of Aultman serves a growing patient panel of varied socioeconomic backgrounds. This assures you experience in managing a wide variety of medical and psychosocial problems. You will encounter patients of all ages, and participate in their management along with residents and faculty. The Family Medicine Center is connected to Aultman Hospital. This center is comprised of 17 well-equipped exam rooms, one treatment room, a conference room, library, and an audiovisual center with videotaping.
Your training will include learning common nurse procedures, a suturing workshop, and sessions with our behavioral psychologist.
Training in the Hospital Environment
You will also participate in the inpatient Family Medicine Service. You will be pre-rounding and co-managing 1 or 2 patients in the hospital setting. You will present the patient(s) during rounds and type progress notes in the Electronic Medical Record.
Feedback
You will receive regular individualized feedback from faculty, residents, nurses, and even patients. You will receive this feedback verbally throughout the rotation, and formally during your midterm and exit meetings with your Clerkship Director.
